Pilates – Monday 11.30 am (post-natal)

Pilates involves recruiting and challenging the deep postural muscles in the abdomen and lower shoulder area.  Current research has shown that improving these deep muscles will prevent and help to resolve low back pain and poor posture.

circuits – Monday 6.30 pm

Circuit’s is a classic session of light weights with a high number repetitions moving through upper body, core and lower body exercises in order to leave no muscle unexercised. This session is fantastic for all standards as each station can be adapted with a lighter weight to suit the individual’s needs. If you’re looking to tone up and boost your cardiovascular fitness this is the perfect session.

Held in the Club’s gym

Price: £7 per session

Beginner’s yoga – Tuesday 10 am

Everything you’d expect in a yoga flow class to help improve your flexibility, strength and balance, but with a bit more time spent explaining the postures and making sure you feel genuinely comfortable.

This is great for beginners or for those of you who are more experienced and want to move a bit slowly or go back to basics. We’ll start with breathwork and some lying/seated poses, before moving to a standing flow and then finishing with a relaxing savasana. Expect chilled tunes, a laid-back, supportive atmosphere, and a slightly slower pace.

Gym HIIT – Wednesday 6.30 pm

This form of training has gained huge popularity for people to get fit and lose weight fast, due to its nature of high heart rate & short intervals. However, all levels are welcome as was proven in Leander clubs lockdown fitness sessions. Many senior members joined the virtual sessions where each exercise can be adapted to minimise impact on the joints. If you need to improve your cardiovascular fitness, want to get fit quickly using just your body and no equipment this is the perfect session for you.

Gym Pure Strength – Thursday 6.30 pm

The word weight training can still conjure images of Mr Universe competitions but have spent most of my time as personal trainer guiding people trough these misconceptions and reminding people of the huge benefits that can be gained from increase muscle mass.

Sarcopenia is the loss of muscle mass due to aging so the importance of resistance training has been proven to support good posture, injury prevention, burn more calories at rest, protect joints and even help our bones from osteoporosis so the argument for lifting weights as we get older is a winning one. This would be a simple session containing a small number of exercises with plenty of rest between each station.

Held in the Club’s gym

Price: £7 per session

Intermediate yoga – Friday 10 am

This class is suitable for students who have been to a couple of yoga classes before.

We’ll follow a similar structure to Tuesday’s session – breathwork, lying/seated poses, a standing flow and then a lovely savasana (the best bit!) – but the pace will be slightly faster and I’ll offer more advanced options in some postures.

Don’t be intimidated or scared by this one! The main aim is to listen to your body and take options that feel great for you, so you can take it as far (or not) as you choose. Expect a varied playlist, creative flows, and more challenging strength/balance options.
