Welcome to Leander Club
Leander Club is both a world-class sporting institution and a private members’ club. The standards expected of everyone who comes through our doors help protect our heritage, our people and our reputation.
This page brings together the key Rules, Regulations, Policies and Member Guidance that govern the Club. It should be read alongside the practical guidance provided to Members, including dress code requirements, use of the facilities and guest arrangements.
OUR GOVERNANCE FRAMEWORK
Leander Club operates under a number of Rules, Regulations and Policies which work together to ensure that the Club remains safe, welcoming and professionally managed.
The Club Rules provide the constitutional framework for the operation of the Club.
Supporting Regulations and Policies explain how specific matters are managed, including discipline, safeguarding, athlete behaviour, data protection, health and safety and standards of conduct.
As set out in the Club Rules, Members are expected to comply with all applicable Rules, Regulations and Policies.
WHO DO THESE DOCUMENTS APPLY TO?
Different people have different relationships with the Club. The governance framework therefore applies differently depending on whether someone is:

- Event Delegates and Corporate Visitors
- Contractors

Leander Club is committed to safeguarding children and adults at risk.
The Club operates its own Safeguarding Policy and adopts the safeguarding framework established by British Rowing.
Safeguarding concerns should be reported in accordance with the British Rowing Safeguarding Regulations and Reporting Flowchart.

Leander Club is committed to providing a safe environment for staff, contractors, visitors and everyone using the Club’s facilities.

British Rowing and External Regulations
As an affiliated British Rowing club, Leander Club and many of the individuals involved with it are also subject to the Rules, Regulations and Policies of British Rowing.
This may include, where applicable:
- British Rowing Safeguarding Regulations;
- British Rowing Disciplinary Rules;
- British Rowing Codes of Conduct;
- British Rowing Membership and Affiliation requirements.
Certain matters may therefore be investigated or determined by British Rowing independently of any action taken by Leander Club.
The Club will cooperate fully with British Rowing and any relevant statutory authorities where required.

The following guidance is intended to help Members and their guests enjoy the Club while respecting its traditions, facilities and other users. This guidance should be read alongside the Club Rules and the governance documents set out above.
Behaviour
Members are expected to uphold the highest standards of conduct at all times and to support the values and reputation of Leander Club.
Members, guests and visitors should behave in a respectful and considerate manner and must not do anything that is likely to bring the Club into disrepute or cause offence, annoyance or embarrassment to another Member, guest or employee.
The Duty Managers are authorised to take appropriate action to maintain the safe and orderly operation of the Club.
Dress Code
The dress code throughout the Clubhouse is Smart Casual.
Examples of acceptable attire include:
- Smart jeans
- Chinos or tailored trousers
- Polo shirts
- Shirts and blouses
- Smart footwear
The following are not considered appropriate for general use of the Clubhouse:
- Sportswear
- Training kit
- Dirty or torn clothing
- Bare feet
Footwear must be worn at all times.
Casual dress is permitted in the Bar at breakfast only.
Members are reminded that certain events, including Henley Royal Regatta, may operate under separate dress requirements.
Children
Leander Club welcomes families.
In the Grounds
Children of all ages are welcome to attend family events in the Club grounds.
In the Clubhouse
Children under the age of 16 may enter the Clubhouse (with the exception of the Library) provided they remain under the direct supervision of the Member responsible for them at all times.
There may be occasions when certain areas of the Club are reserved for adult use or are unavailable to children.
Private Events
Private functions held at the Club may include children of any age, provided they remain under the supervision of a responsible adult at all times.
Dogs
Dogs are welcome in the Club grounds during the day until 6.00pm.
Dogs must remain on a lead at all times and owners are responsible for ensuring they are kept under proper control and that any mess is cleaned up immediately.
Clubhouse Opening Hours
Monday to Saturday: 7.30am – 11.00pm
Sunday: 8.00am – 4.00pm
The Bar and Kitchen are not in service on Mondays and Tuesdays, although Members are welcome to use the Club.
Dining Hours
Wednesday to Friday
- Breakfast: 7.30am – 9.30am
- Lunch: 12.00pm – 2.30pm
- Dinner: 6.00pm – 8.30pm
Weekends
- Breakfast: 8.00am – 10.00am
- Lunch: 12.00pm – 2.30pm
- Saturday Dinner: 6.00pm – 8.30pm
The Club is closed on Sunday evenings.
Car Parking
The Club does not own the car park but has designated spaces available for Members and their guests whilst visiting the Club.
As parking is often limited, Members should not use the car park for purposes unrelated to visiting the Club.
During the Henley Royal Regatta period, parking restrictions apply. Members may not park between 7.00am and 7.00pm on the Monday before Regatta, nor throughout the Regatta period from Tuesday until midnight on Finals Day.
Membership Cards
Membership cards provide access to:
- The Club entrance outside normal hours
- The parking barrier
Replacement cards are available from the Office and are subject to the current replacement fee.
Leander Club Livery
The Club’s Pink livery and Club buttons are reserved exclusively for Full Members and may not be worn by any other category of Member.
Leander Evening Dress for Full Members comprises:
- Dinner dress trousers
- Dinner shirt
- Pink bow tie
- Pink cummerbund
- Traditional double-breasted navy Club blazer with Club buttons
Members are asked to respect these long-established traditions of the Club.
Guests
Members are encouraged to introduce guests to the Club and are responsible for ensuring that their guests comply with the Club Rules, Regulations and Member Guidance.
Unless specifically stated otherwise, guests are welcome at the Club, including for dining and social events.
Members are also encouraged to propose suitable new Members for election. Advice regarding the membership process can be obtained from a Committee Member, the General Manager or the Membership Secretary.
Reciprocal Clubs and Member Benefits
Leander Club maintains reciprocal arrangements with a wide range of clubs in the United Kingdom and internationally.
Members may enjoy the facilities of those clubs in accordance with the relevant reciprocal arrangements and any local rules that may apply.
Information regarding participating clubs and the expected standards of conduct is available through the Club Office.
The Club also maintains a number of concessionary arrangements and Member benefits for goods and services.
Letters of introduction may be arranged through the Club Office.
Gratuities
Gratuities for staff are entirely at the discretion of Members.
Many Members choose to contribute to the Staff Fund, which is distributed to the team at Christmas.
The Office is pleased to receive such contributions during normal working hours.
Pink Hippo Shop
The Pink Hippo Shop is available to Members during normal office hours and at other times where operational commitments permit.
A member of staff will be happy to assist.
Many items are also available to purchase online through the Club Shop.
