Leander Juniors Deliver Standout Performances at the World Rowing U19 Championships in Plovdiv
Leander Club is delighted to celebrate the exceptional performances of our Junior athletes and coaching team at the World Rowing U19 Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, where Great Britain’s young rowers delivered a powerful statement on the international stage.
Alfie Webb – JM2x – Silver
In the Junior Men’s Double Sculls (JM2x), Alfie Webb and his GB partner Quinn Mosley delivered one of Britain’s most impressive junior performances in a dramatic final that saw the lead change hands numerous times from start to finish. The Individual Neutral Athletes took an early lead over Türkiye. By halfway, there was less than three seconds between all six crews, as Great Britain barged their way into second place. In the final 100m, there was a race for the line that saw AIN drop out of the medals; the British duo held firm in second, while Estonia roared from fourth to first and won by 0.6 seconds.
Alfie’s performance reinforces his status as one of the rising talents in British sculling.
Louis Sheasby – JM4x – 4th
In the Junior Men’s Quadruple Scull, Leander’s own Louis Sheasby sitting at 3 produced a standout performance, posting the fastest time across both semi‑finals.
In the A Final, the crew built nicely through the field and found themselves in third place with 500m to go. Germany held their nerve and continued to lead as they crossed the finish line. Denmark moved from sixth to third in the space of 500m, pushing the Brits into fourth place in the final stages, while Poland held on for silver.
Placing 4th puts Louis among the world’s top junior sculling crews and highlights the strength of the British junior system, with Louis representing Leander at the heart of this exceptional boat.
Coaching Excellence – George Nottidge
Leander’s Juniors Coach, George Nottidge, played a pivotal role in the GB campaign as the selected coach for the JM2x. His leadership and athlete‑centred approach were evident throughout the regatta, supporting the double to deliver their strongest racing when it mattered most.
George’s appointment reflects the high regard for Leander’s coaching expertise within the national pathway.
