Vesta Scullers Head

Leander Club took six scullers to race over the traditional course, from University Stone Mortlake to Putney on the ebb tide.

Seb Devereux racing in the men’s elite event set off 4^th overall out of the 450 scullers racing. The three scullers ahead of him were all bunched up and Seb saw his opportunity and attacked the race early. By the bandstand approximately five minutes into the race Seb had overtaken all three scullers and was leading the way with clear water ahead of him.

Seb achieved the fastest time of the day and won the Vesta Scullers Head overall and won the Men’s Elite pennant.

Racing in the Women’s Elite category we had three scullers, Ruth Siddorn, Alice Baatz and Beth Bryan.

Ruth raced well to finish in second place in the category and 102^nd overall, Alice Baatz was in third place with Beth Bryan in 4^th place.

Joe Willis was racing in the Junior Men’s category and raced very well to achieve 11^th place overall and finish 2^nd in his category.

Finally, Tristan Grange was racing in Men’s Junior 17 sculls, and he enjoyed his first time in a single scull on the tideway stretch and learnt a great deal coming home 3^rd In his event.

All our Leander scullers and coaches thoroughly enjoyed the event and are now focusing on either next week’s GB assessment or GB trials in February.
