READING SMALL BOATS HEAD

The torrential rain did not dampen the spirits of the Leander squads who competed at the Reading Small Boats Head this weekend.

Leander Club boated three men’s fours, two women’s fours and a men’s quad to race the 3.7km course downstream. The club finished the day with 3 wins, recording the fastest times for men and women.

Leander men’s four of James Robson, Cameron Buchan, James Stanhope and Ed Grisedale won men’s coxless four event over team mates Ryan Todhunter, James Vogel, Richard Hawkins, and Charlie Waite-Roberts by 1 second.

Leander had two women’s fours battling down the course, and it was the crew of Laura Meridew, Lauren Irwin, Anna Porteous and Chloe Brew who were able to take the win by 3 seconds over Alice Davies, Heidi Long, Susie Dear and Natasha Harris-White.

Finally, in division 3, the Leander men’s quad of Ollie Dix, Frazier Christie, Sam McKeown and Luke Reiser won their event and set the fastest time of the day.

The early season racing has demonstrated some promising depth across our senior squads and we now set our sights on GB rowing team trials in November.
