World’s Toughest Row

Ladies Plate winner (1985) Julian Galliven is taking part in the World’s Toughest Row Atlantic Challenge, 40 years on from his win at Henley.

Julian writes:

I was lucky enough to row in the Ladies Plate that won in 1985! Coached by John Pilgrim Morris and John Peters I sat at 4 in the eight along with Colin Guppy, Steve Turner, Simon Berrisford. It was our 40th anniversary this year and we had a great day with our lunchtime row over from the club.

I have decided to take part in another rowing challenge with the Worlds Toughest Row’s Atlantic challenge as part of the 40th anniversary and my 60th year – just to prove to myself and others that you can still challenge yourself and rowing is still in my blood albeit not as before!

I have teamed up with Phil Johns to take on this 45 to 50 day, 2hrs on 2hrs off, 24/7 challenge from La Gomera to Antigua which is approximately 3000 miles.

We are trying to raise money for the charity UNLTD that help and support local community-based start-ups. I would grateful for any support from the Leander community.
