Race report: Head of the River

Leander’s squad boated three eights into this year’s Head of The River race on Saturday 26th March. The course is raced in reverse of the upcoming boat Race course starting at Chiswick and finishing 4 1/4 miles downstream in Putney.

Preparation for this race was far from ideal due to injury and illness with many crew changes happening daily until the day of the race itself.

Although losing top GB athletes was disappointing, this did give our younger club-based development athletes a fantastic opportunity to race in our lead boats.

In the beautiful sunshine ,our Leander crews were excited to race for the club in our last Head race of the season before we move onto the all important summer side-by-side regatta season.

The Club placed 2nd, 4th and 11th. We are of course disappointed not to win the HORR but considering the number of athletes unavailable to race, the club did well to put three crews in the top 11 and only have one club ahead of our leading two crews.

Next up we have April GB senior and U23 Trials. Leander have 51 athletes invited.
