Places do fill very quickly so prompt booking is essential. Once the Dining Room is full we will automatically move your booking to the Marquee unless you instruct us not to.

PLAN YOUR DAY
ARRIVING AT LEANDER CLUB DURING REGATTA
PLEASE READ THIS SECTION CAREFULLY AS THERE HAVE BEEN SOME CHANGES.
Members are asked to remind their guests that the dress code for Regatta is very traditional. These dress codes apply to everyone and no exceptions are made.
GENTLEMEN. Within the Clubhouse and grounds, gentlemen are required to wear a lounge suit, jacket or blazer with a tie or cravat, flannels or other long smart trousers. Gentlemen are required to wear their jackets at all times. Only in the most extreme temperatures would an announcement be made relaxing the jacket rule in the non-air conditioned areas. In such circumstances, ties must remain fastened and sleeves unrolled.
LADIES. The ladies’ dress code is similar to Stewards’ Enclosure. Dresses or skirts may be worn with a dress length that should cover the knee. Please note that ladies wearing short or very revealing dresses will be declined entry. Entry will also be declined for ladies in shorts, divided or split skirts, culottes and trousers. Hats are optional but encouraged.
CHILDREN. Children around the age of 10 and over are welcomed provided they comply with the adult dress code. Younger children and babies will not be allowed entry, before end of racing on Sunday.
The Leander Badge Tent is by the main entrance and here you can collect any badges ordered after 28th June. You may also leave badges or messages here for others to collect and we are pleased to answer general enquiries on the day.
Pre-arranged Overseas Members’ badge packs are held here for collection.
The Club Car Park is not available for Members throughout Regatta Week as it is allocated for Competitors and therefore you may not park in the car park from Monday 1st July until Monday 8th July.
Members are also advised that the popular Wargrave Meadow car park is under new ownership and is no longer available. Members must make their own parking arrangements and and a map of possible car parks is shown below.
A ticketed cloakroom is available during bar opening hours at the base of the Balcony steps for secure holding of your bags and other personal items.

CLUBHOUSE DINING ROOM
The Clubhouse dining room affords you the opportunity to start the day with a very civilised traditional full English breakfast alongside the Leander residents.
The Riverview Bar and terrace provides unparalleled views over the river and boat tents and provides excellent value for money and service on the Regatta Reach. The bar is open from 9 am to 11 pm daily (midnight Saturday and 10.30 pm Sunday). Early morning coffee, and pastries are served.
The Clubhouse Bar offers a quieter and more relaxed environment than the Riverview Bar. The bar is open for the sale of coffee from 8 am, and 9 am for the sale of alcohol.
Why not show your guests the full Regatta course from the water with a fabulous river cruise? We have exclusive use of two classic 12 seater river launches, offering 90 minute trips down the course and back, which take place at 9.30, 11.30, 14.30 and 16.30 each day.
With an optional glass of Leander Pink in your hand, it is a perfect way for your guests to see the course.
Booking is advisable at email@example.com or on the booking form.
Trips are £46 per passenger. Leander Pink can be arranged at an extra charge. Please note that as the launches are open to the elements and a jacket or shawl may be advisable.
The luncheon racing interval follows a fairly consistent pattern:
WEDNESDAY THURSDAY FRIDAY SATURDAY SUNDAY
LUNCHEON INTERVAL 12.30 pm - 2.00 pm 12.30 pm - 2.00 pm 12.30 pm - 2.00 pm 12.30 pm - 2.00 pm 1.00 pm - 2.30 pm
There are two different styles of bookable Members’ luncheons. The more formal Clubhouse luncheon offers a more leisurely à la carte menu while the Marquee provides a more limited three-course menu in a lively atmosphere.
The Clubhouse Dining Room is arguably the most prestigious luncheon venue at Regatta, providing an à la carte luncheon of the highest quality for Members and their private guests. The four-course menu has five choices of main course and vegetarian options. It may be viewed on the website. The air- conditioning allows Members to dine in comfort and the jackets-on rule is strictly enforced at all meals.
Members may book up to eight luncheon places in the Dining Room over the Regatta week. You may dine at your discretion from noon with last orders taken at 1.30 pm. The four-course luncheon is for those Members whose timetable allows them to miss some of the racing and you should allow two hours for this relaxed luncheon service.
We ask that you vacate the Dining Room by 3.30 pm so that the tables can be laid for afternoon tea.
Places do fill very quickly so prompt booking is essential. Once the Dining Room is full we will automatically move your booking to the Marquee unless you instruct us not to.
The buzz of the Marquee is a popular place to take luncheon. Members wishing to watch the full programme of racing can usually dine in around 90 minutes. On occasions, the race programme and weather conspire together to make this service time more challenging, but staff will always do their best. Please let them know at the beginning of the meal if you are pressed for time.
The menu consists of a cold starter, hot choice main course or lobster salad, dessert and coffee. A vegetarian option is also available and other dietary requirements can be accommodated if we are informed, ideally at the time of booking. The daily menus are displayed on the website. Members are encouraged to pre-order their lunchtime wines at the Marquee earlier in the morning.
The Marquee is arranged on shared tables of eight to ten. You may book up to ten places a day and have a dedicated table for your party. Smaller parties will share tables with other Members. You are asked to vacate luncheon by 2.45 pm to allow for afternoon tea service to be set.
You are restricted to one table of ten per day for luncheon (and one for afternoon tea) except on Sunday. Some larger parties may be accommodated by separate arrangement outside peak days.
Members wishing to invite business guests are invited to contact firstname.lastname@example.org where a 15% reduction on published corporate rates is available. Members may not conduct overt business entertaining at Members’ rates.
THE MARQUEE IS AL FRESCO. MEMBERS AND THEIR GUESTS MUST WEAR THEIR JACKETS AT THE TABLE. LADIES MAY NEED A JACKET OR SHAWL ON CHILLY DAYS.
Quality bar meals including the popular lobster salad and ploughman’s lunch are available at lunchtime in the Clubhouse Bar and Regatta Room. We ask that Members vacate the Regatta Room once they have taken lunch so that others may sit and eat.
The Riverview Bar offers a similar lunch menu to the Clubhouse Bar.
MARQUEE TABLE FOR THE DAY
Many Members meet up with their guests and then watch the racing before returning for luncheon and later afternoon tea.
We have found that many Members appreciate the convenience of a Table for the Day which provides a base for you and your guests throughout the day and the opportunity to pre-order your luncheon and wines and run a day account for your drinks.
Drop-in, non-bookable lunches are available between 11.00 am – 3.00 pm at either the Clubhouse Bar or the Riverview Bar.
The racing tea intervals follow a fairly consistent pattern:
|RACING TEA INTERVAL||4.30 pm to 5.30 pm||4.30 pm to 5.30 pm||4.30 pm to 5.30 pm||4.30 pm to 5.30 pm||Following the last race 4.00 pm|
THE PINK HIPPO SHOP
Afternoon is an excellent time to visit the Pink Hippo Shop. Purchases may be left securely in the Cloakroom until the end of your day.
Afternoon Tea may be booked in either the Clubhouse Dining Room or the Marquee. This is a quintessentially English affair and is served at your table between 4 pm and 6 pm (4 pm and 5.30 pm on Sunday).
Prices for Afternoon Tea have been held at 2018 levels and the successful menus and service style adopted in 2018 will be repeated for 2019. The full menu can be found here.
Period launch cruises can be booked for 2.30 pm and 4.30 pm daily. The 2.30 pm trip gets you back in time for afternoon tea which starts at 4 pm. An early tea makes the later trip manageable.
Timings of the last race depend on the number of entries, but the following general pattern is fairly consistent:
WEDNESDAY THURSDAY FRIDAY SATURDAY SUNDAY
LAST RACE OF THE DAY 7.30 pm 7.30 pm 7.30 pm 7.30 pm 4.00 pm Prizegiving 5.00 pm
The Leander bars are open until 11 pm daily (midnight on Friday and Saturday and 10.30 pm Sunday). Day dress code is retained into the evening and entry remains restricted to badge holders.
Members may purchase additional entry ‘swing’ badges at a significantly reduced price of £7 from the badge tent after 6 pm.
These are complimentary for those pre-booking Clubhouse dinners.
CLUBHOUSE REGATTA ROOM
The Regatta Room may be reserved without a room charge by Members after 6.30 pm each night for informal Member gatherings up until 8.30pm. Please contact email@example.com to discuss a booking.
For those wishing to finish the day on a quiet note or just avoid the traffic home, a less formal supper is served in the calm of the air-conditioned Club Dining Room with orders being taken between 7.00 pm and 8.30 pm Wednesday to Saturday.
Groups of up to eight may be booked per table. Members are asked to pre-pay for the two-course supper at £30.00.
A more extensive menu will be available to allow Members and their guests to enjoy a three or four-course dinner including a cheese board.
Members who pre-book supper will have additional complimentary entry badges supplied. Members who do not pre-book may find they can still be accommodated on the day.
PRIVATE DINNERS AND CREW REUNIONS
A number of private gatherings, especially crew reunions, are arranged for Members every year from drinks receptions to dinners. Please contact the office who will be pleased to talk to you about the options that are available.
SATURDAY NIGHT BARBEQUE AND FIREWORKS
There is usually a traditional fireworks display at around 10.30 pm on Saturday night.
At Leander Club we warm up for this with a Barbeque in place of Street Food.
Tickets may be purchased from the Badge Tent during the week and at the Barbeque itself on the night. This event is extremely popular so please come early and purchase your tickets.
“HUNGRY HIPPO” EVENING STREET FOOD
The “Hungry Hippo” made a very successful debut in 2017 enabling the Riverside Bar to provide great value ‘street food’ every evening (except Saturday when we hold the traditional Barbeque). The equally popular new Marquee layout provided generous additional seating, whilst still keeping the great riverside setting. 2018 was a sell out each night and we will be doing our best to meet greater demand in 2019. We hope that our hungry and still thirsty members will help us make the “Hungry Hippo” ‘the place to be’ after the days’ racing. Street food service will commence at 6.30 pm and will provide really tasty and attractive food at very competitive prices for those preferring the buzz of the Riverside Bar to the relative calm of the Clubhouse.
LATE BOOKINGS AND REFUNDS
For peace of mind, tickets for late bookings (received after 28th June) will not be posted but will be available for collection at the Badge Tent from Wednesday 3rd July. No refunds can be made after 24th June. The office is closed on Monday 1st and Tuesday 2nd July whilst we relocate to the Badge Tent and Members are asked not to attempt to collect badges at this time.
The Club does not carry cancellation insurance for force majeure occurrences such as flooding, and it is not possible to insure against cancellation due to an act of terrorism and communicable diseases such as foot and mouth or a pandemic. Full or even part refunds may not, regrettably, be possible in such extreme circumstances.
To avoid the possibility of overload the Club Wi-Fi system is only available to residents and staff over the Regatta period.
PINK HIPPO SHOP
During Regatta an extended Club shop is situated by the main entrance to the Clubhouse. Opening hours are from 10 am to 7 pm and until 8 pm on Friday and Saturday. The continuing success of the shop provides a very healthy contribution to the rowing programme.
Purchases may be left in the ticketed Cloakroom at the base of the Balcony steps.
MOBILE COMMUNICATION DEVICES
The golden rule with electronic communication devices is that you should not use them in such a way as to impair the enjoyment of others. They should be switched to silent and, if it is necessary to hold a conversation, it should be conducted quietly in a discreet place and certainly not in the Clubhouse or Marquee dining area. The Stewards’ Enclosure has stricter controls on the
use of mobile telephones.
Wheelchair access is available to all areas of the Club with the exception of the Eton Room and the raised Riverside Terrace where regrettably this is impractical.
Dogs and other pets may not be brought into the Clubhouse or grounds at any time. With the exception of guide dogs, no pets may be brought into the Clubhouse or grounds.
