Along the way\, he represented Cambridge in The Boat Race\, won medals at Henley\, and raced for Great Britain at both European and World Championships. \nBeyond his achievements as an athlete\, Mike made a significant contribution to the governance and development of rowing. During the 1970s\, he served as both Chairman of the Selection Board and Team Manager for the British Rowing Team. Internationally\, he spent 14 years on the World Rowing Council and\, as Chairman of the Events Commission\, oversaw numerous World Cups\, World Championships and Olympic regattas. \nMike also chaired Henley Royal Regatta for more than 20 years\, helping to guide the event through a period of significant growth and evolution. \n“Rowing has shaped so much of my life – from my first strokes at school to Henley\, Cambridge\, Great Britain and the wider international rowing community. ‘You\, Boy\, the River!’ is a reflection on those experiences\, the people I met along the way\, and the enduring spirit of the sport. I have put a great deal into the sport of rowing but I have received a great deal in return. I have travelled the world\, I have friends in every continent and I have very many wonderful memories.
