SUPPER AND VIEWING
Come and enjoy supper and a viewing of Going for Gold (perhaps better known as “Bert and Dickie”) to mark the 70th anniversary of the 1948 gold medal at the London Olympics.
The film-makers say “Set against the backdrop of a country on its knees, Bert and Dickie is an uplifting, warm-hearted and celebratory story about how two men rose above distinctions of birth and class to become Olympic gold medallists – and how London did pull off a brilliant and triumphant Games.”
We will be joined by Tizzy and John Burnell (daughter and son of Richard) and Sue and David Bushnell (daughter and great nephew of Bert) to provide their reminiscences of the protagonists.
Film buffs might like to know that Leander athletes used as doubles in the filming included Nick Middleton (for Dickie Burnell) and Ross Hunter (for Bert Bushnell), as well as Nathan Devaux-Davey, Dave Lambourn, Rob Johnston and Tom Wilkinson.
Two course set supper at 6.30 pm for 7.00 pm followed by viewing of Going for Gold (running time about 1 hour 30 minutes)
Cost: £20 per person, payable in advance.
