Rowing

Leander Club, founded in 1818, is the most historic and prestigious rowing club in the world. Our squad of world-class athletes includes established members of the GB international team as well as less experienced members of our development squad who are also aiming for the highest pinnacles of success in our sport.

Leander has played a key part of the recent success of British rowing at international level - a success which now means that rowing is the only sport in which Great Britain has won gold medals at every Olympics for the past 20 years. But our Club's success at the topmost level goes back much further than that, and our athletes have now won more medals at World and Olympic level than any other club, in any sport, in the world! Among those who have contributed to the success of the club are such sporting giants as Sir Matthew Pinsent, James Cracknell, Tim Foster and, of course, Sir Steve Redgrave, a member of Leander during the sixteen years it took him to amass an unbeaten record of five successive Olympic gold medals.

Rowing, with its combination of stamina, speed and endurance, is one of  the most challenging sports, and the entire membership watch the continued success of our athletes with tremendous pride, evident from the honours boards lining the marbled entrance hall and which record the club's many successes at the world's finest regattas.

Leander welcomes applications for membership from active oarsmen and women who are seeking the highest accolades in rowing, and who wish to benefit from all that the club has to offer in helping them achieve their goals. Please check our Membership section for further information on how to apply.

In addition the club is also able to offer financial assistance for living expenses, subsistence costs, training camps, kit, physiotherapy, and regatta entry fees.
