25 May 09: Leander junior Luke Moon, one of the most promising young scullers in the country, has won the J16 singles title at the National Schools Regatta in Nottingham.
Luke, who lives with his family in Kent, trains near Canterbury but spends as much time as possible at Leander or at the GB training centre in Caversham.
On Saturday he entered the J17 event where he had to be content with the silver medal after losing to Andrew Holmes of George Watson's College.
But on Sunday, racing among scullers of his own age, he went one better by beating Peterborough's Tom Chung to the line in the J16 event.
He now hopes to emulate the success of other national junior title winners who have gone on to greater glory, including Olympic gold medallist Mark Hunter, who won the J16 sculls at Nottingham in 1994.
