Report by

Leander Press Officer Robert Treharne Jones

30 September: The German world silver medallists capitalised on the home advantage this weekend over the 7.9 mile course on the Kiel Canal, winning the EON Hansa Cup more than four seconds clear of the USA, with Great Britain in fifth place.

25 September: Four Leander athletes will compete in the GB eight at this weekend's Hanse Cup down the Kiel Canal near Hamburg, Germany. Five world-class crews will compete over the 7.9 mile course near Hamburg where the favourites will be this year's German world silver medallists.

The British line-up is changed from the crew which took the bronze medal in Munich - Marcus Bateman and James Orme from the coxed four now join the eight which still includes Rick Egington and Tom Stallard. Three other international eights are entered alongside Germany and Britain - the USA who took fourth in Munich will compete as will the Netherlands and Switzerland who have yet to qualify for the Olympics. The big race is part of a three-day programme of events which also includes dragon boats, junior races and ergo challenges.
