HAVE YOU JUST GRADUATED AND LOOKING TO TAKE YOUR ROWING TO A HIGHER LEVEL?

The open door policy at Leander Club means that it has never been easier for recent graduates and gap year students to further their rowing careers towards the highest level. The club is open to male and female athletes in open and lightweight categories - the only real qualification is the will to succeed. As part of its future development the Club plans a residential assessment and trial period later in the summer. For further information choose a leaflet to download for recent graduates or gap year students and then get in touch with our Chief Coach, Mark Banks.

Invitation list grows for Leander for GB Trials

15 March 10: No less than 37 Leander athletes have been named among the invitees for next month's final GB Trials to be held on the international course at Hazewinkel. Report here.

Leander on show in Olympic Torch relay

13 March 10: Youth and experience were on show when Leander played its part in an Olympic torch parade to mark the opening of the 'Sporting Life' exhibition at the River and Rowing Museum in Henley. Report and pictures here.

Leander pipped by GB composite at Women's Head

13 March 10: Leander led the way home in this year's Women's Eights Head, but it was the GB composite crew who once again recorded the fastest time of the day. Report and pictures here.

Burkitt to stroke Oxford Blue Boat

Alex Partridge named 'Athlete of the Year'

2 February 10: Leander's Alex Partridge has been named as rowing's "Olympic Athlete of the Year" for his achievements in 2009 as part of the world champion men's four - his third world title in this boat category since 2005. Report and picture here.

Wintery finish to racing year

20 December 09: Leander athletes celebrated the Christmas holiday in style by staging their own annual regatta, competing for prize turkeys. Report and picture here.

Lifetime achievement award for Armstrong

9 December 09: Leander coach Brian Armstrong has been honoured with a lifetime achievement award for services to rowing by Sports Coach UK. Report and picture here.

Fours Head called off

14 November 09: This year's Head was called off at the eleventh hour when cross headwinds coupled with an ebb tide created unrowable conditions over the Championship course.

Glorious gold for GB men's four

31 August 09: The new GB men's four won gold in Poznan where six Leander athletes won medals as part of Team GB's tally of three gold, five silver and a bronze. Race reports, pictures, crew lists and progression charts here.

Golden Girls at World Under-23s

27 July 09: Nine Leander athletes won medals at the World U23 Regatta in the Czech Republic, where the GB women's eight took gold ahead of the USA and Poland. Racing report and crew details here.

Leander press officer named 'Rowing Journalist of the Year

1 July 09: The British Association of Rowing Journalists last night awarded Robert Treharne Jones their highest accolade. The trophy was presented to the 'voice of world rowing' at the River and Rowing Museum to mark his international commentary work with FISA, which has including many world championships as well as the Beijing Olympics.

Leander freshmen make US final

28 June 09: Denied the opportunity to compete at Henley the Leander freshmens VIII made the long trip to the USA to enter the National Championships. Despite the presence of the entire US squad they put in a highly creditable performance to reach the final, finishing sixth overall.

Rude awakening for Team GB in Munich

21 June 09: More than half the Leander athletes in Team GB came home with medals from the second World Cup regatta of the season in Munich. Reports and pictures here.

Double success at Henley Women's Regatta

21 June 09: Debbie Flood and Jane Hall returned to their winning ways in the double sculls, while Rachel Jefferies and Vicky Bryant took Leander's second win of the regatta in the elite pairs.

Record medal haul for GB at opening World Cup

Moon takes J16 singles title at National Schools

25 May 09: Leander junior Luke Moon, one of the most promising young scullers in the country, has won the J16 singles title at the National Schools Regatta in Nottingham. Report and picture here.

Reed and Reeve lead the way home in Belgium

Smith triumphs with Oxford in 155th Boat Race

Three crews in Top Ten at Head

23 March 09: Once again three Leander crews finished among the top ten in the Tideway Head, and our lightweights regained their pennant, but there was disappointment for Leander I who narrowly lost the No.1 slot to Tideway Scullers. Full report, results and pictures here.

Solid gold at Australian Youth Olympics

Leander captain heads New Year rowing honours

31 December 08: Double Olympic gold medallist Steve Williams is one of five Leander members to receive honours in recognition of the GB performance in Beijing. Full details here.

Competition sizzles at Turkey Sculls
22 December 08: Ian Lawson, Tom Wright, Graham Hall and Tommy Burton won the Copas Christmas turkeys after a morning of competition where the excitement featured a dead-heat, two re-rows, and defeat for Olympic champion Mark Hunter. Pictures here.

Bateman tests Olympic champion in Boston

22 December 08: Leander's Marcus Bateman put in an exceptional performance at the weekend when he pushed Olympic gold medalist Andy Triggs-Hodge to a 0.05sec verdict at the December leg of GB  trials. Report and results from Boston here.

Four crews in Top Ten at at Fours Head

9 November 08: Four crew pennants, including another win for Olympian Debbie Flood, was the overall tally for Leander at the Fours Head, where the club placed four crews among the top 10 finishers and won the new lightweight quads event just six seconds ahead of the rest of the field. Drysdale and Hosking win Wingfields

31 October 08: Former world champion Mahe Drysdale of Tideway Scullers took a second successive victory in yesterday's Wingfield Sculls, while Leander's Katie Greves and Tina Stiller were beaten to the line by London's Sophie Hosking in the women's race.

Lawson supreme at Boston trials

27 October 08: Ian Lawson, who won the Diamonds title at this year's Henley, put in a winning performance at the weekend's opening round of senior GB trials. Louisa Rowbotham was second in the women's event while Jane Hall took third in the lightweights. Report and Leander results here.

Recent deaths of Members

26 October 08: The Committee regrets to announce the recent deaths of three Members.  The funeral service for Bill Wallace, former boatman at Shiplake College, will be held at 12 noon on Friday 31 October at Shiplake Parish Church and afterwards at the College. A memorial service for David Chipp, former Editor-in Chief of the Press Association and Henley Steward will be held at 11am on 20 November at St Bride's, Fleet Street, and afterwards at Stationers' Hall. A memorial service for David Parry, former GB international and Henley Steward, will be held St Mary's, Henley at 3pm on 4 December and afterwards at Leander Club.

European silver for GB women's eight

21 September 08: Three Leander athletes brought home silver medals from the European Championships in Greece but there was disappointment for Olympic silver medallist Debbie Flood, who finished fifth in the double scull. Race reports and crew details here

GB top Olympic medal table

17 August 08: Gold medals for the men's four and lightweight double, and silvers for the men's eight and women's quad all helped to place Britain at the top of the rowing medal table and create the best Olympic rowing results for 100 years. Race reports, pictures and crew details here

So near and yet so far for GB lightweight women

27 July 08: Despite their best efforts the British lightweight women's quad finished just out of the medal zone in fourth place in today's A final, in which Australia took gold ahead of Poland and the USA. Full crew lists, results and race reports here.

Record nine golds at the Nationals

20 July 08: Leander had their best ever day at the National Championships, where their total of nine gold medals included a clean sweep in the men's heavyweight events, as well as the women's fours and the lightweight men's pairs. Full crew lists, results and race reports here.

Second under-23 bronze for Burkitt

20 July 08: A second successive bronze medal for Charlie Burkitt in the GB men's pair was part of the British medal haul of one gold, a silver and three bronze in Brandenburg. Full GB crew lists here.

Golden hat trick for lightweight double in Poznan

22 June 08: A third successive gold for Mark Hunter and Zac Purchase in the lightweight double, and a win for Anna Bebington in the women's double were the highlights at the World Cup regatta in Poznan, where fourteen Leander athletes helped towards the British medal haul of four gold, a silver and two bronze. Women's pair qualifies for Beijing

18 June 08: Lou Reeve, partnered by Olivia Whitlam, became the latest Leander athlete to qualify for the Beijing Olympics when she finished in second place behind France at the Olympic qualification regatta in Poland.

Gold for lightweight double in Lucerne

1 June 08: With nine Leander athletes winning medals in Lucerne the star performance came from former captain Mark Hunter, who notched up a second successive gold medal with Zac Purchase in the lightweight double. Race reports, results and crew lists here.

Six golds for Leander athletes in Munich

13 May 08: Six Leander athletes won gold medals at this weekend's opening World Cup regatta in Munich, where the GB women's quad, men's four, double and lightweight double all won convincingly. It was part of a total British haul of 5 golds and 3 silver, which won them the first World Cup winners trophy, clear leaders of the points table, as they now prepare for the second regatta at Lucerne in three weeks time. Clean sweep at Wallingford

7 May 08: Leander athletes, sponsored by Invesco Perpetual, kicked off their season in exceptional style at Wallingford regatta last weekend, winning all seven events they entered and setting themselves up for a great season ahead.

Leander Member still youngest ever British Olympian

29 February 08: The news that Tom Daley, the boy wonder of British diving, might stake a claim as the youngest-ever British Olympic athlete, came as a surprise to Leander's Ken Lester, who was almost ten months younger than Daley when he competed in the Rome Olympics in 1960. Full story here.

GB pull ahead at FISA Team Cup in Seville

17 February 08: Eleven Leander athletes were among the eight winning GB crews in Seville this weekend where the Andalucian capital hosted its traditional two-day international event on the Guadalquivir River. Crew lists, results and details here

Spring Head season kicks off

16 February 08: The Leander development eight kicked off their Spring season with fourth place at the Trent Head. The Cambridge Blue Boat won with a convincing 15 second margin ahead of Goldie, while Oxford Brookes were third. Full results here.
