Leander athletes celebrated the Christmas holiday in style by staging their own annual regatta last weekend.

Racing in mixed quads for the Turkey Sculls over a sprint course from the Regatta finish to the clubhouse the winning crew were awarded turkeys by Tom Copas, on behalf of the Copas Partnership, who have been supporting the event for many years.

Seven crews took to the water, but notable absentees were the men's heavyweight athletes who had GB trials at Caversham, and also the veterans of Rentacrew, who had decided that when the stroke rate exceeded their age it was time to wind down!

In a lighthearted end to the year at least one dead heat was called by the finishing judge, chief coach Mark Banks, but come the final the result was in no doubt.

The winning crew included GB Under-23 medallists Dave Jones and Kirsty Myles, together with Al Sinclair and Dan Crockford.
