While their GB international clubmates were notching up the wins in sunny Spain the Leander development squad were putting in class performances of their own in Nottingham, with a win for the elite coxless four and a second place for the Senior 1 eight.
The results were remarkable given the problems experienced by the squad whose original line-ups had been decimated by winter viruses. But with just one outing apiece the eight came home just three seconds slower than the formidable Goldie crew, while the four crossed the line a clear ten seconds faster than the second-placed Grosvenor quad.
