Welcome to Leander Club
With less than six months to go before the Olympics our athletes have returned from training camps in Spain, Portugal and South Africa, and our clubhouse is once again as busy as ever. In the meantime our rolling programme of bedroom redecoration has been in full swing – the Harvard and Yale rooms now have lively new colour schemes, Cambridge has been redecorated and Brown now has a superb new bathroom, thanks to a very generous sponsor. If you haven’t been to stay for a while our tempting offer for the month of February means that for each night you stay and take dinner at the club we will be pleased to serve you a complimentary bottle of house wine.
Travel arrangements for the period of the Olympics are now becoming clearer thanks to a dedicated website www.getaheadofthegames.com which will prove useful for those Members lucky enough to have tickets, and we will shortly be publicising our own programme of events during the Games for those who wish to enjoy the rowing from the comfort of Leander!

GENERAL INFORMATION
The Club Office is open Monday - Friday from 9am to 5pm. The clubhouse is open throughout the year except for Sundays after 5pm and is closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year’s Day, and the two days immediately following Henley Royal Regatta to restock.
Drawing Room and Bar
The Drawing Room is open for formal dining from 12noon - 2pm and from 7pm - 9pm (except Sunday evenings), and light meals are also available in the Bar during these hours. Reservation is advised. The Bar itself is open from 11am until 11pm. No meal or drink service is provided after 4pm on Sundays. We are always pleased to tailor requirements for private or corporate events - please speak to Shiela in the main office. When the weather permits we hope members will make use of the new permenant decking which overlooks the river.
Pink Hippo Shop
You may shop on-line by clicking here or come and browse during office hours. During the evenings and at weekends, access to the shop can be arranged via Reception. A wide variety of clothing and memorabilia is on sale. Members are reminded that only Full Members may wear pink membership regalia.
Entry to the Clubhouse
The reception desk is on the first floor, accessed through the main doors and up the stairs. Should the front doors be locked then swiping a membership card across the entry pad on the wall will allow entry. Any member who does not yet have such a card can request one from the Membership Secretary. Clubhouse residents should note that room keys have an electronic entry card attached.
Please note that we have recently experienced some occasions when the magnetic strip on the Club membership card appears to have malfunctioned. Our investigations have shown that the data stored on this strip has been lost as a result of exposure to mobile phones including BlackBerrys, and even handbag magnetic fasteners.
Please be reassured that, should your own data be lost, we still have a record of your account details and we can supply a new card on request during office hours. Meanwhile we strongly recommend that all your cards are kept well away all types of magnets, including mobile phones.
This is an increasingly common problem on all bank and credit/debit cards. For those less technologically challenged Members this website provides more information on the general problem. |
Use of car park
Access to the car park is controlled by electronic barriers, which can be opened by swiping a membership card across the pad on the barrier intercom system. Pressing the button the intercom will alert a staff member to operate the barriers remotely. Please note that you must 'keep right' when entering or leaving the car park. This arrangement is necessary to allow large boat trailers to access the car park.
The club has allotted spaces on the left of the car park. These are only available for members and their guests during visits to the Club. This car park is used for Competitor parking throughout the Regatta and is not available to members at this time. Members may not park between 7am and 7pm Monday 27th and Tuesday 28th June and throughout the Regatta period between Wednesday 29th June until midnight Sunday 3rd July.
Children
Children over eight years old are welcome but must be supervised at all times. We regret that younger children are not admitted, except for the Family Sunday Lunches, normally held on the first Sunday of each month, when all ages are welcome.
Dress Code
The dress code throughout the club is ‘smart casual’, which is defined as dressing in any way that is in keeping with the prestige and ambience of the clubhouse. This now includes smart jeans, (T-shirts, sweat tops, shorts or trainers are considered inappropriate); this also applies to children. This includes formal dining in the Members Balcony and Dining Room except for those occasions when jacket and tie are specified.
Smoking Policy
Leander Club has a non-smoking policy, which applies to all areas of the clubhouse including bedrooms. In compliance with legislation, this policy will be strictly enforced.
Business mEetings and the use of mobiles
Members wishing to use the Clubhouse for private meetings should book a room accordingly. Overt business meetings, especially involving laptops and the use of any electronic communications equipment such as mobile phones may not take place in rooms that have not been booked in any way that may disturb other members present. The exceptions to this rule are the Library and Members Bar where such equipment may be used with the agreement of other members present.
Membership Cards
Membership cards operate the parking barrier and the front door of the Club out of hours. They can also be pre-loaded with cash at the bar to attract a 5% discount on Club food and drink purchases. We encourage the use of this facility. Cards issued before April 2009 will require activating at the office prior to their first use. Replacement cards are available from the office at a charge of £10.
Gratuities
Staff gratuities are entirely at the members' discretion; they are always well received but are not expected.
Pets
Members may not bring pets into the Clubhouse.
Telephone enquiries and bookings
Members are asked to try to restrict general telephone enquiries and booking to normal office hours (9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday) where possible. At times it may be necessary to leave a recorded message.
