JONATHAN CLEGG

Jono Clegg took up rowing at the age of 13 while at school, where he competed in a number of other sports. , In 2007 he won a bronze medal in the championship quads at the National Schools Regatta, and in the same year took another bronze at the National Championships in the J18 single. He competed again at National Schools the following year, winning a gold medal in the championship quads.

In 2009 Jono was a member of the GB squad that competed in the 2009 Australian Youth Olympic Festival, where he won gold in the lightweight men’s double scull and men’s eight as well as a silver in the men’s quadruple scull. The same year he competed at Henley, where his crew won the Prince of Wales Challenge Cup, and the same crew went on to win bronze at the 2009 World U23 Championships in lightweight men's quads.

After switching from sculling to sweep the following year Jono and his crew took the world title in the lightweight men's fours at the 2010 World U23 Championships in Brest, Belarus.

At the first World Cup regatta of 2011 in Munich Jono raced in the second GB lightweight men's four and finished in 11th place. The same crew raced at the World U23 Championships in Amsterdam and won the B final comfortably. Later in the season Jono raced in the lightweight men's double with Chris Boddy at the European Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria and finished 6th.

Jono is currently undertaking a course in personal training which he would like to use as a career after he has stopped rowing. Jono also enjoys coaching at Sir William Borlase's Grammar School, where he originally learnt to row.
