Jo gained her senior colours in rowing at school after winning the Women's Head, the Schools' Head, the National Schools' Regatta , and Women's Henley - all in the same year! She also won a gold award in rowing from Nottingham University.

Jo's international debut came as a member of the GB women's eight at the World Junior Championships in 2000 where she finished 6th, as did her twin sister Pip who rowed in the same crew!

She followed this up with two more appearances at World Juniors before graduating to Under-23 competition in 2004 where she won a bronze medal in Poznan, Poland, as a member of the GB women's pair, partnered by Annie Vernon.

Jo was back in Poznan as a member of the GB senior women's eight which finished in 5th place at the senior World Championships in 2009. She spent the whole of the 2010 season in the same crew, winning gold, silver and bronze at three successive World Cup regattas before taking 4th place at the World Championships in New Zealand.

Jo retained her place in the eight for the 2011 season, in which she won a silver medal in Munich and took 4th place in Lucerne. At the World Championships in Bled, Slovenia, Jo rowed at 2 in the crew which won the bronze medal behind the USA and Canada.
