Dave Jones started rowing in 1998 at Maidenhead Rowing Club, where his father also rowed. As a junior he raced in the GB team at the Coupe de la Jeunesse in 2005 and 2007, winning silver and bronze in the single and double.
At the 2009 World U23 Championships he won a bronze medal in the lightweight men's quad, which had already shown its high standard that season in winning the Prince of Wales Challenge Cup at Henley Royal Regatta.
The followng year Dave moved from sculling to sweep and became a world champion for the first time as a member of the GB lightweight men's four which took the gold medal at the World Rowing U23 Championships in Brest, Belarus.
