Originally a talented swimmer, Dan raced over 1500m for GB at the European Junior Championships in 2004 and achieved a world ranking of 72. He then moved to Australia and attended Southport School on the Gold Coast of Queensland, where the school's strong rowing ethos gave him the idea to take up the sport on his return to the UK. In 2006, after just nine months of rowing, Dan won the elite single sculls at Marlow Regatta and Senior 2 single sculls at Metropolitan Regatta!
After narrowly missing a U23 place in 2007 Dan raced in the GB men's four at the 2008 World U23 Championships, finishing in 6th place.
The following year Dan raced in the senior men's eight and achieved a bronze medal at the World Cup regatta in Munich before finishing in fifth place at the 2009 World Championships in Poznan.
During the 2010 season Dan maintained his place in the men's eight, winning a gold and two bronze medals at the World Cup series, before an exceptional silver medal behind Germany at the World Championships in New Zealand.
Now firmly established in the stroke seat of the GB men's eight Dan won silver and bronze during the 2011 Munich and Lucerne World Cup regattas before taking another silver medal behind Germany at the World Championships in Bled.
