Anna began rowing at Newham College, Cambridge where, despite her later success, her sole achievement was Head of the Cam with her college crew in 2003.
She then went on to set a British Universities record on the ergometer before progressing to the GB U23 team in 2004 where she became World U23 Champion.
In 2005 she won a bronze medal with the GB senior women's eight at the Eton World Cup and went on to win bronze in the pair at the World U23 Championships. Following this result she was selected in the eight which finished 5th at the 2005 World Championships in Japan.
In 2006 she raced in the women's double with Annie Vernon, winning a gold at the World Cup in Munich, taking 4th at Poznan and a silver in Lucerne before finishing 4th at the World Championships at Eton.
In 2007 Anna won a bronze medal in the double with Elise Laverick at the World Championships in Munich.
In the 2008 World Cup Series they raced together again in the double at the second and third regattas placing 5th and winning gold respectively. Selected in this boat class for Beijing they finished just 0.2 sec off gold in a dramatic finish to take the Olympic bronze medal behind New Zealand and Germany.
In 2009 Anna raced with Annie Vernon in the double, taking silver at the World Championships in Poznan, behind gold medallists Poland with Bulgaria third.
In 2010 she was partnered with Katherine Grainger in the double scull, while both athletes doubled up in the quad throughout the World Cup season. Unbeaten in either boat class all year they concentrated on the double for the World Championships where they won the gold medal to finish off the season in style.
Anna and Katherine were unbeatable during the international season in 2011 when straight wins at the World Cup regattas in Munich and Lucerne were followed by an emphatic gold medal at the World Championships in Bled.
