Four crews in Top Ten at at Fours Head
9 November 08: Four crew pennants, including another win for Olympian Debbie Flood, was the overall tally for Leander at the Fours Head, where the club placed four crews among the top 10 finishers and won the new lightweight quads event just six seconds ahead of the rest of the field. Drysdale and Hosking win Wingfields
31 October 08: Former world champion Mahe Drysdale of Tideway Scullers took a second successive victory in yesterday's Wingfield Sculls, while Leander's Katie Greves and Tina Stiller were beaten to the line by London's Sophie Hosking in the women's race. |
Lawson supreme at Boston trials
27 October 08: Ian Lawson, who won the Diamonds title at this year's Henley, put in a winning performance at the weekend's opening round of senior GB trials. Louisa Rowbotham was second in the women's event while Jane Hall took third in the lightweights. Report and Leander results here. |
Recent deaths of Members
26 October 08: The Committee regrets to announce the recent deaths of three Members. The funeral service for Bill Wallace, former boatman at Shiplake College, will be held at 12 noon on Friday 31 October at Shiplake Parish Church and afterwards at the College. A memorial service for David Chipp, former Editor-in Chief of the Press Association and Henley Steward will be held at 11am on 20 November at St Bride's, Fleet Street, and afterwards at Stationers' Hall. A memorial service for David Parry, former GB international and Henley Steward, will be held St Mary's, Henley at 3pm on 4 December and afterwards at Leander Club.

European silver for GB women's eight

Golden hat trick for lightweight double in Poznan
22 June 08: A third successive gold for Mark Hunter and Zac Purchase in the lightweight double, and a win for Anna Bebington in the women's double were the highlights at the World Cup regatta in Poznan, where fourteen Leander athletes helped towards the British medal haul of four gold, a silver and two bronze. 18 June 08: Lou Reeve, partnered by Olivia Whitlam, became the latest Leander athlete to qualify for the Beijing Olympics when she finished in second place behind France at the Olympic qualification regatta in Poland. |

13 May 08: Six Leander athletes won gold medals at this weekend's opening World Cup regatta in Munich, where the GB women's quad, men's four, double and lightweight double all won convincingly. It was part of a total British haul of 5 golds and 3 silver, which won them the first World Cup winners trophy, clear leaders of the points table, as they now prepare for the second regatta at Lucerne in three weeks time. Leander Member still youngest ever British Olympian
29 February 08: The news that Tom Daley, the boy wonder of British diving, might stake a claim as the youngest-ever British Olympic athlete, came as a surprise to Leander's Ken Lester, who was almost ten months younger than Daley when he competed in the Rome Olympics in 1960. Full story here. |
