HAVE YOU JUST GRADUATED AND LOOKING TO TAKE YOUR ROWING TO A HIGHER LEVEL?

The open door policy at Leander Club means that it has never been easier for recent graduates and gap year students to further their rowing careers towards the highest level. The club is open to male and female athletes in open and lightweight categories - the only real qualification is the will to succeed. As part of its future development the Club plans a residential assessment and trial period later in the summer. For further information choose a leaflet to download for recent graduates or gap year students and then get in touch with our Chief Coach, Mark Banks.

Leander reigns supreme at Fours Head

7 November 11: Seven Leander crews finished in the Top Ten at the Fours Head - an unprecedented result which provided a fitting springboard for many of the club’s Olympians, who were racing in their club colours for the last time before London 2012. Report, pictures and crew lists here.

Anna retains Wingfields title

28 October 11: Leander’s Anna Watkins added yet another trophy to her collection when she retained the Wingfield Sculls for the Amateur Championship of the Thames in London but Tom Solesbury had to settle for second place in the men's race. Report and pictures here.

Leander athletes help GB to top medal table in Bled

4 September 11: The GB men's four regained the world title on the final day's racing in Bled. And when Olympic Champion Mark Hunter and Zac Purchase successfully defended their world title in the lightweight men's double scull it brought the GB medal tally to a record level. U23 gold for Emery in Amsterdam

25 July 11: Kieren Emery and his Oxford Brookes partner Pete Chambers are the new world champions in U23 lightweight men's pairs, while Will Satch and Tom Clark won bronze as members of the GB men's eight.

Medals galore on the Lake of the Gods

11 July 11: Leander athletes were at the heart of the action last weekend in Lucerne, where Great Britain once again topped the medal table at the World Cup regatta with four golds, four silvers and two bronze. Crew lists, reports and photos here

Six of the Best at Henley

3 July 11: With records falling like nine-pins at this year's Royal Regatta Leander athletes were able to match a record of their own. Six trophies against their name equalled the glorious season of 1991, when rowing stars like Messrs Redgrave, Pinsent and Cracknell were still very much in their ascendancy'. Kicking off the season in style in Munich

30 May 11: Leander athletes kicked off the international season in style at the first World Cup regatta of the season in Munich. Twenty returned with medals - four of them gold - to show for their efforts in helping Great Britain win the trophy for the most successful nation…more

Trio of wins at windy Wallingford

2 May 11: Leander athletes made the best of their opening regatta of the season by taking three titles at Wallingford Regatta. But the day was marred by a stiff north-easterly breeze which later forced organisers to cancel the rest of the day’s programme. Report and photos are available here

Watkins beats Grainger for second time at GB Trials

18 April: Leander’s Anna Watkins beat fellow world champion Katherine Grainger for the second time this season, and in men’s pairs Pete Reed and his Molesey partner Andy Triggs Hodge exerted their customary superiority ahead of Alex Gregory and Tom James. Leander in command over Championship Course
3 April: Despite the loss of two of their seasoned internationals Leander regained the Head pennant over the Tideway course by a four second margin over Molesey. With the Leander lightweights and Senior crews also claiming their pennants it brought the Head season to a fitting climax. No other club has ever won the Fours, Eights and Womens Heads outright in the same season. Full story here
Leander regain title at Women's Eights Head
19 March: The Leander women's eight took the Head pennant by 34 seconds over the Championship course on 19 March. Their time of 18 mins 7 secs was just 0.6 sec outside the record. The crew included Lou Reeve, Jo Cook, Emily Taylor, Ro Bradbury, Annie Vernon, Anna Watkins, Vicky Thornley, Katie Solesbury and cox Phelan Hill.

Juniors squeeze home at Hampton Head

5 February 11: The Leander J18 quad took their event pennant by just 0.2 sec ahead of a Runcorn/GRange School composite. Racing in blustery conditions Ben Board, Nathan Devaux-Davey, Ed Rippon and Joe Guppy were the fastest of the five Leander junior crews competing over the 3000m course.

Hart Perry 1933-2011

4 February 11: The Committee regrets to announce the death of Hart Perry after a short illness. A Life Member of Leander and long-serving committee member Hart was also a Steward of Henley Royal Regatta. Just two weeks before his death he was presented with the 2010 Distinguished Service to International Rowing award by FISA, the international rowing federation. The funeral will be held in the USA on 19 February 19 and a memorial service is planned for 11 am on Saturday 16 April 16 at St. Joseph's Chapel at Kent School, Connecticut, USA.

Michael Jones 1941-2011

29 January 11:The Committee regrets to announce the death of Michael Jones, a member of Leander since 1981. Michael was the club archivist and the author of several books on rowing and Henley Royal Regatta, where he served as a Chairman’s Assistant. A memorial service will be held at St Mary’s Church, Henley  at 12 noon on Thursday 17 February, followed by refreshments at Leander. Dress code: Blazers and club ties.

Evergreen Garbett claims Turkey Sculls

22 December 10: Former world champion Toby Garbett was a member of the winning crew as Leander athletes celebrated Christmas break by staging their own annual regatta. Racing in scratch mixed quads the competing crews braved icy conditions as well as the additional handicap of snowballs thrown from the bank by their clubmates! Report and pictures here

Lightweights reign supreme

16 November 10: Leander regained the Fours Head pennant on the Thames with a lightweight quad scull which featured four of the club's GB U23 scullers, who recorded the winning team more than 2.5secs ahead of Leander's own heavyweight quad! Report, photo and crew lists here

Golden hat trick on Lake Karapiro

8 November 10: Leander athletes, sponsored by Invesco Perpetual, were right at the heart of the biggest-ever medal haul by Team GB at the world rowing championships in New Zealand. The British team won five gold medals, five silver and a bronze. Of the thirteen returning gold medallists no less than seven were Leander athletes, while another five won silver, totalling one third of the overall GB medal haul.

Andy Holmes MBE 1959-2010

5 November 10: There is to be a celebration of the life and achievements of Andy Holmes MBE, double Olympic Gold medallist, on Saturday 20 November at Latymer Upper School, 237 King Street, Hammersmith W6 9LR from 3 to 5pm. The family say that all Andy's friends from the rowing community are very welcome to attend. Click here to read more of his life in rowing.

1 September 10: A GB ‘super eight’ with six Leander athletes on board has become the first-ever British winners of the E-ON Hanse Cup in Germany. Report here.

Watkins takes women's title in Championship of Thames

24 August 2010: GB international Anna Watkins has become the first Leander athlete to win the women's race in the Wingfield Sculls for the Championship of the Thames. Report and pictures here.

Gold for U23 lightweight four in Belarus

25 July 10: Nine Leander athletes won medals at the World Under-23 Championships, including gold for Dave Jones and Jono Clegg in the lightweight four. Report, pictures and crew lists here.

Record World Cup success in Lucerne

12 July 10: Eight Leander athletes returned with gold medals from Lucerne, where Team GB had its most successful World Cup regatta in history. Report, picture and crew lists here.

Winning ways at vintage Regatta

5 July 10: Leander came away from Henley after winning the Prince of Wales Challenge Cup outright with a club-based quad, and helping to win another three trophies with GB international composites. Reports, photos and crew lists here

Golden glow for Leander lightweights

21 June 10: Leander’s athletes were on top of the world after their performance in Munich. The lightweight four went one better than their silver medal in Bled while Mark Hunter proved he still had what it takes to win. Report, picture and crew lists here.

Team GB win nine golds in Bled

31 May 10: Eighteen Leander athletes came away with medals from the first World Cup regatta of the season after a dominant performance by the GB team, including golds in the men's and women's doubles and eights, as well as the men's four and women's quad. Reports, pictures and crew lists here.

John Peters ('JP')1946-2010

24 May 10: The Committee regret to announce the recent death of John Peters, one of the most prominent and successful coaches at Leander in the 1980s, when his crews recorded a number of wins at Henley and World U23 level. The funeral is to be held at 11.00am on Friday 18 June at St Mary's Church, Henley. Dress code: Club ties.      

Reaping rewards in Duisburg

17 May 10: Will Satch and Andy Holmes won the U23 pairs in Germany and followed it up with another in the men's fours, partnered by George Nash of CUBC and Constantine Louloudis of Eton, while Dave Jones and Jono Clegg triumphed in the Leander/ Durham/IC composite which won the lightweight men's fours.

Windy wins at Wallingford

4 May 10: Despite a fierce cross-wind on the Dorney course Leander won elite eights ahead of Eton College and Thames Tradesmen, while development athlete Jacob Sobstyl recorded his first win for Star and Arrow with a 12 second margin in Novice Sculls.

Leander dominant at GB Trials

13 April 10: Leander's Pete Reed and his Molesey partner Andy Triggs-Hodge recorded their sixth win together in the men's pairs in Belgium, with Rick Egington and Matt Langridge in second place. Report and pictures here.

Burkitt faces Boat Race blues

3 April 10: Leander's Charlie Burkitt suffered defeat with Oxford in an epic battle on the Tideway as Cambridge triumphed in the 156th University Boat Race. Story and pictures here

Leander denied Tideway title

28 March 10: The wash created by a passing police launch at Barnes Bridge may have cost Leander the Headship on Saturday, but Leander II retained the lightweight pennant. Report, photos and crew lists here

Neck-and-neck battle with Oxford Blue boat

20 March 10: A scratch Leander crew gave the Oxford Blue boat a run for their money in a pre-Boat Race fixture on the Tideway, with the Dark Blues claiming a narrow victory in the race from Putney to Chiswick Steps. Report and pictures here.

Leander on show in Olympic Torch relay

13 March 10: Youth and experience were on show when Leander played its part in an Olympic torch parade to mark the opening of the 'Sporting Life' exhibition at the River and Rowing Museum in Henley. Report and pictures here.

Leander pipped by GB composite at Women's Head

13 March 10: Leander led the way home in this year's Women's Eights Head, but it was the GB composite crew who once again recorded the fastest time of the day. Report and pictures here.

Alex Partridge named 'Athlete of the Year'

2 February 10: Leander's Alex Partridge has been named as rowing's "Olympic Athlete of the Year" for his achievements in 2009 as part of the world champion men's four - his third world title in this boat category since 2005. Report and picture here.
